• Signs of hope: There is growing awareness of the authoritarian threat and civil society leaders are thinking more about the unlikely coalitions that we can form. I see signs of openness to more cooperation and collective action (e.g. unions striking this summer).
• Potential Threats: I think the frame of the decline of the nation-state is overstated. It's actually a failure of governance broadly because we currently do have state and local governance as well as global governance frameworks. None of it is keeping pace with the challenges we face. I think the real thing is the lack of anticipatory governance and that changes/crises are happening too fast to build governance in a reactive way.
